Linen

Care recommendations

Linen is significantly less elastic than even cotton, which means that it has an even greater tendency to crease. To make sure this popular summer fabric doesn’t suffer too much in your suitcase, we recommend packing it between tissue paper.

See our Stains guide for information on removing stains from linen.

Washing

Coloured and unbleached linen can be machine-washed on the ‘delicate’ cycle at up to 40° C. Linen should always be turned inside out. Linen must be washed separately the first time. Do not overload the washing machine. Powerful detergents should not be used. Do not use more detergent than the instructions specify. If hand-washing linen, use a large vessel.

Drying

Linen should be only be briefly spin-dried, then pulled into shape and hung out on the line while still wet. If a linen garment is described as suitable for tumble-drying, set to a low temperature and do not fill the drum to capacity. Never hang out wet linen in the sun.

Ironing

Linen should be ironed inside out – while damp, unless you are using a steam iron – at a high temperature setting.

Caution:
Linen blends containing viscose must be ironed at a low temperature setting.
